New Restaurants Open in Tukwila
There's a lot to be excited about when it comes to dining in Tukwila. On October 1, 2024, Westfield Southcenter Mall announced the completion of its Northside Restaurant Row, which includes three buzz-worthy new restaurants: Gen Korean, Mr. Dim Sum, and Marugame Udon. Nearby in Southcenter Plaza, beloved local chain Dough Zone opened its doors on October 9. The openings are an exciting addition to the region's already thriving dining scene. All four restaurants are conveniently located near dozens of stores, so diners can enjoy a meal before or after shopping. With the holiday season around the corner, they'll provide an ideal option for people looking to gather with visiting friends and family.
Dough Zone Dumpling House
Dough Zone Dumpling House opened its Tukwila location in October to much fanfare. Founded in 2014 by local couple Jason and Nancy Zhai, the business has built a loyal fanbase for serving dependably delicious Chinese favorites ("arguably the best dumplings in the city" according to Eater Seattle). Favorites include the soup dumplings and signature Q-BAO®, a modern take on pan-fried buns, with a crispy bottom and pillowy soft top. With more than 50 dishes to choose from, diners can mix and match dishes and share with family and friends. Since the moment it opened, influencers, food writers, and visitors have flocked to the restaurant to try out the new location, and their reviews have been glowing.

Specializing in generous portions of fresh meat and seafood and Korean ban-chan (side dishes), it’s perfect for groups and celebratory get-togethers where sharing is part of the fun. Order fresh meat, seafood, and veggies, then cook it all up on a piping hot grill right on your table.
Popular dishes include the Gen Signature Galbi, a marinated bone-in short-rib, and Korean Fried Chicken, fried and marinated with the restaurant’s signature sweet and sour sauce. People also rave about the bulgogi (thin, marinated slices of meat).
Marugame Udon
Marugame Udon, which opened in Westfield Southcenter in September 2024, is a renowned Japanese chain founded in 2000 in Kagawa Prefecture. The restaurant is known for its authentic, made-to-order udon noodles. It offers a customizable dining experience with an array of toppings and sides, catering to various tastes, from classic beef udon to inventive curry udon creations. The restaurant chain has locations in California, Hawaii, and Texas, but the Tukwila location is the first and only one in Washington state.
"Westfield Southcenter's Northside Restaurant Row provides an unparalleled platform to showcase our authentic udon experience,” said Tetsuya Ishihara, General Manager of Marugame Udon in a press release. “The vibrant atmosphere and diverse customer base make it the perfect setting for introducing our authentic Japanese noodle experience to the Seattle area."
