Sumi Korean Grill in Tukwila redefines Korean BBQ, incorporating elements of Japanese cuisine and an upscale western steakhouse. Local owner Sylvia Hu opened the business in 2021, fulfilling a lifelong dream of becoming a restaurateur. Noting that the Seattle area mostly only had traditional Korean food, she saw an opportunity to provide diners with a fresh dining experience that emphasizes high-quality meats and ingredients sourced from local farms and vendors. While you’ll still find the fun, interactive experience that Korean BBQ is known for, there are a number of delightfully surprising dishes on the menu.

• Prix Fixe Menus: While Sumi is not an “all you can eat” restaurant, the BBQ menu is still simple and streamlined. Choose from various preset “feasts” that are designed to serve either two or four people and include a generous variety of food. The Premium Butcher Feast, for instance, has four different kinds of meat, including Wagyu beef. Each Feast is also served with salad, banchan (sides), savory egg soufflé, and beef fermented soybean stew.
  
• Fusion Dishes: Sumi’s dishes play on tradition. For example, the Rose Creamy Tteokbokki is a unique take on a popular Korean street food made primarily from chewy tteok (rice cakes) and gochujang (Korean red chili paste). Sumi’s version, named for its red hue, is cooked in a sweet, creamy sauce that tones down the spice and topped with parmesan cheese.
