Spice Bridge Global Food Hall: Culinary Innovation That Supports Communities
At Spice Bridge Global Food Hall in Tukwila, you can find delicacies from around the world while supporting women of color, immigrants and refugees in growing their businesses. The chefs are part of a Food Business Incubator program launched in 2017 by SeaTac-based nonprofit Global to Local. The program helps participants get their start through catering, the food hall, farmers markets and pop-up events throughout the region.
NEED TO KNOW:
Rotating Vendors: Food vendors rotate through the food hall stalls, so check the website to see what kinds of food you can find at any given time. In 2024, vendors include:
Taste Of Congo features authentic Congolese cuisine. Owner Chef Caroline Musitu grew up helping her mother cater events but was forced to flee armed conflict in the Democratic Republic of Congo and start a new life in South King County. Dishes include Poulet a la Moamba (chicken stew), a popular dinner dish cooked with onion, garlic, and tomato, Ntaba (grilled goat), and Beignet (deep-fried dough).
Moyo Kitchen offers a unique combination of authentic East African food made by Chef Mwana Moyo, who hails from Zanzibar, Tanzania. She moved to the U.S. in 1998 with her children and dreamed of starting a food business ever since.
Multiple Dining Options: The 2,800-square-foot facility includes a commercial kitchen with cook stations, retail food stalls, and a dining area. You can dine in the hall, or take your food to go.
THE VIBE:
The food at Spice Bridge is made with heart, and you can tell. The program is not only about selling food, but giving people the opportunity to establish a foothold in their new homes while bringing the food they love to their new communities. Historically, many chefs in the region have faced barriers to access but through Spice Bridge, they receive kitchen and retail space, business support, a peer network, and help with the logistics of running a business.
GOOD TO KNOW:
More Than a Food Hall: The space also supports FIN’s Tukwila Village Farmers Market, which makes fresh, local produce affordable and accessible for community members, and is a hub for FIN’s community meals program, which has provided more than 8,700 no-cost meals for seniors and families in need.
