Pumpkin Patches, Corn Mazes and Hot Apple Cider in Washington!

Fall has returned and with it, pumpkin spice lattes from Starbucks, the sound of leaves crunching, freshly baked apple pie, and the task of finding the perfect pumpkin to display on my front porch. There's nothing like the changing of the leaves in the Pacific Northwest! If you're looking for things to do near you, perhaps an autumn adventure, then I've got a story for you!

How To Find the Perfect Pumpkin...

I set out on a mission with two friends to the Swan's Trail Farm in Snohomish. It is about a 45-minute drive heading north from Seattle, situated in the farming valley of Snohomish County. A beautiful sunny fall day made the trip even better.

Upon our arrival, we immediately began our search for the best pumpkins. There were two large fields and plenty of wheelbarrows available to load up with our autumn harvest. After finding and purchasing our loot, we dropped the pumpkins off at the car and took a ride on a tractor pulled covered wagon to be dropped off in Spokane.

Once we made it out of the maze without any Children of the Corn incidents, we meandered over to the apple orchard where we picked Honeycrisp and Jonagold apples. After posing for a quick photo in the sunflower garden, we walked back to the barn area to grab a bite to eat. Yummy corndogs, pulled pork sandwiches, fries, roasted corn on the cob and spiced apple donuts and hot apple cider awaited us.

There were lots of families with young kids running around and parents trying to get the perfect photo to send out as a holiday card. Fun activities for the kids included: duck races, pig show, petting farm, hay maze and a play area with a cool bouncy thing that I wanted to try.

The prices were very reasonable. The cost of the pumpkins varied depending on the size starting at $1 going up to $20 for a "Gigantor" pumpkin. The apples were sold by the pound and I spent about $8 for enough to make a pie and some to eat. The corn maze was $6 and the food ranged from a few bucks to around $8.

All in all it was a great fall day and if you were wondering...that apple pie turned out delicious!
