Uncorked
You don't have to drive all the way over to Wine Country to experience some great wine - it's right here in Seattle Southside! Starting out in Kent at the Castle Bridge Winery on South 180th Street, you can choose the option to make your own wine. They provide the materials, the experts and the atmosphere and you provide the hands to create your own personal vintage. In the meantime, enjoy tasting of Castle Bridge's hand-crafted wines that are made right on the premises. Next, head north to :NOTA BENE Cellars (only open on the second Saturday of each month) for tasting of their collection of red wines. Uniquely, the grapes they use in crafting their wines are only grown on their own roots, not grafted. A part of the South Seattle Artisan Wineries, :NOTA BENE along with the boutique wineries of Owen Sullivan Winery, Cadence Winery and Fall Line Winery are all located in close proximity to each other and are open for the Second Saturday Wine Tasting from February through August from 1-5 p.m. Now, travel south again to E.B. Foote Winery on 153rd Street in Burien. One of the oldest wineries in Washington State, E.B. Foote uses grapes grown in the Columbia Valley but completes the entire process from crushing, pressing, fermenting, bottling, labeling, and sales at the winery in Burien. The tasting room has no fees and is open for tasting and tours on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 7-9 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., or by appointment. Wrap up your drive by heading a little further south to Des Moines and land at Corky Cellars on Marine View Drive. Now that you have seen a few wineries and maybe even toured them, you can taste other Washington state wines at Corky Cellars and make your purchasing decisions here. Purchasing hours are Tuesday-Saturday 11 a.m.-6:30 p.m. and the Tasting Room is open Saturdays from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. If you get a little ambitious, we recommend the drive north to the Columbia Winery and Chateau St. Michelle Winery. Columbia Winery is Washington State's first premium winery and is located in Woodinville about a 45 minute drive from Seattle Southside. Join in a complimentary tour of the winery and enjoy shopping in the wine shop after tasting their variety of wines of course. Chateau St. Michelle Winery offers historic grounds to tour and enjoy, also in Woodinville. One of Washington's most acclaimed wineries, the Chateau is a must visit for any wine enthusaist. |
